Boston Baked Beans

dinner tonight: spicy grilled sausages, new potatoes, corn tomato salsa, and

Boston baked beans.

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups of navy beans

  • 1 large onion, chopped

  • 1/2 cup molasses

  • 1/3 cup ketchup

  • 2 Tablespoons maple syrup

  • 1/4 cup light brown sugar

  • 2 teaspoons dry mustard

  • 2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce

  • 1-1/2 cups water

  • 1/2 pound bacon

Directions

  1. Soak beans overnight in cold water.

2.Simmer the beans in the same water until tender, approximately 1 to 2 hours. Drain and reserve the liquid.

3.Arrange the beans in large crock pot by placing a portion of the beans in the bottom of dish, and layering them with bacon and onion.

4. In a saucepan, combine molasses, salt, pepper, dry mustard, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, pure maple syrup, and brown sugar. Bring the mixture to a boil and pour over beans. Pour in just enough of the reserved bean water to cover the beans.

5.Mix all ingredients in a large crock pot. Keep Boston Baked Beans cooking on a low heat setting for 10 to 12 hours. Be patient: The sauce will thicken at the 8 or 9 hour mark.
